Specialty costs are expected to continue to rise and to become a more significant proportion of pharmacy and overall healthcare expenditures. According to this study, total medication costs, including those adjudicated under both the medical and pharmacy benefits, are expected to account for nearly 30% of total healthcare claim costs in 2016.
